Last night our chapter elected next year's Directors. Congratulations to all those who received positions! The competition was tough this year. We encourage those who did not get a position as a Director to run for a Coordinator position next week and continue to work closely with Habitat. The races were close and all of the candidates would have made excellent choices for Directors!

Souper Bowl is an afternoon and evening of food, art, and entertainment, bringing the Madison community together to support Habitat for Humanity. Souper Bowl XVII will take place on Feb. 2nd from 2-8. All proceeds from the event go directly toward making Dane County a better place to live by providing simple decent affordable housing to families in need. To present this event we partner with Madison area high schools and potters, who donate ceramic bowls created in their art classes and businesses. Larger and more decorative bowls are sold in the silent Pro Bowl auction. The day is packed with entertainment, celebrities, great food, and door prizes. Be sure to mark your calendars!

Have you noticed the change in your browser's address bar? Do to some administrative restrictions placed on our student group, we've had to change the name of our organization and thus our domain. You can now find us at www.habitatuw.org. That's right, the "UW" comes after the "habitat". For now, your browser will automatically redirect you if you're still used to uwhabitat.org. But, be aware....we've changed! Likewise, email addresses have changed as well. You may use the same email prefix but with @habitatuw.org instead.

In Fall of 2012 work began on the house that would go to the Diriye/Hassan Family, the family sponsored by UW-Habitat for Humanity this year. Below is a brief bio from the family:
We are a family of four – Mohamed (father), Sahra (mother), Musab (son), and Layla (mother’s sister). We are originally from a country of long time civil war (Somalia). Before we came to United States we lived in a different country than Somalia and we never felt home in that case. It was a big dream for us to feel at home once again. We came to United States in October, 2003. We lived in Barron, Wis. for five years. When we came first to the United States, it was OK with us to be renting apartments, but when Musab was born we started thinking about having our own home.
We felt a home would help us finally settle and we felt we are at home here in this very cold Midwest State of Wisconsin. We then moved here to Madison. Today, it is something we could not imagine to see our own home is finally being built here. The most amazing thing to see for us is people from different groups are here to build what we one day will call our home
Big thanks from our heart to all of you, THANKS
